SPARK FOILS
The new Spark range from Phantom Foiling takes performance to the next level, offering unmatched versatility and control. Whether you're riding in light winds or tackling extreme conditions, these foils are designed to push your limits like never before. Discover what makes them stand out.
Optimized Dihedral Angle
The optimized dihedral angle reduces drag and improves roll stability, ensuring smoother gliding. It keeps the wing in a stable position at high speeds, making maneuvers like jibes and tacks easier. It also enhances upwind and downwind performance, while reducing the risk of spinning or stalling.
The dihedral of the front wings has a unique shape under the fuselage, forming a star-shaped junction. This design is directly inspired by the rudders used on Sail GP and America's Cup boats.
It brings three major benefits:
– It reduces interference between the front wing and the fuselage, thereby decreasing drag.
– It increases the immersion of the front w ing relative to the water's surface, improving its efficiency.
– It shifts the wake of the front wing below the stabilizer, allowing the stabilizer to operate in cleaner flow, which enhances its performance and stability.
Additionally, the dihedral shape at the wing tips allows the wing to pierce the water surface at a steeper angle, minimizing ventilation during tight jibes.
Optimized Profile
The redesigned profile, with adjusted angle and curvature of the outline, allows water to flow more efficiently, providing increased lift at the same angle of attack. This makes take-offs easier, especially in light winds, while improving stability and control.
Adaptability to Extreme Conditions
The new Spark wings are designed to perform across a wide wind range, from light winds to strong conditions. Thanks to the 950cm² front wing, riders can now enjoy smooth sailing in very light winds, while the 360cm² front wing ensures outstanding performance in extreme wind conditions.
The new 560 Mk2 front wing delivers better low-end performance with a wide range of use. Additionally, the new 950 wing is specially designed for light wind conditions and lake environments.
The new 180, 160, and 145 Mk2 stabilizers are much more forgiving, improving foil accessibility and making it less sensitive to adjustments. It’s a small component often overlooked but represents a major breakthrough.
Fuselage Optimization
Phantom Foiling has eliminated steps in the fuselage when adding stabilizer shims, ensuring a smoother transition between the wings and fuselage for improved aerodynamics and performance. The new Mk2 Titanium fuselages are slimmer, with a reduced front section to minimize drag and increase speed.
New, Stiffer Fuselage Connection
A new, more rigid fuselage connection increases overall stiffness, enhancing the responsiveness and stability of the foil. This upgrade ensures better control, particularly at high speeds.
We’ve developed a connection where the mast spans the full width of the fuselage, similar to most kite foils, providing increased rigidity. This design also allows for a Karman-style mast-to-fuselage junction with a large fillet radius, which significantly reduces drag and further improves stiffness.
The conical fit with pronounced angles at the wingtips eliminates any play in the system without requiring the mast to be forced into the fuselage, ensuring both precision and ease of assembly.
Ultra High Modulus Optimized Construction
The SPARK R mast is built with 13 layers of ultra-high modulus carbon, making it stiffer and more responsive than the IRIS R mast, which uses 9 layers. The wings, stabilizers, and mast of the SPARK R foils are all made from prepreg ultra-high modulus carbon, nearly twice as stiff as standard high modulus M40J carbon. This results in a slim, low-drag design that’s incredibly rigid, reducing energy loss and providing better control, even in tough conditions.
